Stephen Fearing’s music is a mesmerizing blend of roots, folk, and pop. Co-founder of  Canadian roots-rock supergroup Blackie and The Rodeo Kings, he is a beguiling teller of  tales and master guitarist who delights audiences throughout North America, the UK,  and Europe. A multi Juno and Canadian Folk Music Award winner, his 11th solo album,  Every Soul’s a Sailor, was named 2017 Worldwide Album of the Year by Blues & Roots Radio. In 2019 he released The Secret of Climbing, a limited edition, vinyl-only release  that captures the subtle emotions of his mesmerizing voice and masterful guitar work in  their purest form, unobscured by computers or studio wizardry.

Fearing is an alluring entertainer – heartbreaking, expansive, and full of mirth – with a  clear, honorable voice that lifts you out into his wide world and “brings you back home  to yourself.” Over the course of his celebrated career he has collaborated with artists  such as Bruce Cockburn, Rosanne Cash, Richard Thompson, Rose Cousins, Nick Lowe,  Sarah McLachlan, Margo Timmins, Keb’ Mo’, Suzie Vinnick, and many more.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best songsmiths on the planet. Quality  albums … stunning shows.” - BBC UK

THE NORTH SOUND

The North Sound was formed in 2014 by lead singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Forrest Eaglespeaker along with his wife Nevada Eaglespeaker who composes and provides vocal harmonies. Keeping true to the traditions of Forrest’s heritage, The North Sound was created to share stories of Forrest’s Blackfoot identity and traditions from Treaty 7 Territory. With a no holds barred approach to songwriting, Forrest’s lyrics span across haunting metaphors from everyday experiences to personal realities.

The band’s lyrics and music are a balance that incorporate today’s modern production techniques and writing sensibilities inspired by great storytellers like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris. The North Sound is signed to the independent Indigenous record label New Sun Music (Nashville, TN USA), created by Juno award winner Crystal Shawanda and her partner Dewayne Strobel. The North Sound has had four singles reach number one on the Indigenous Music Countdown as well as Saskatchewan’s MBC Radio. The band won Sask Music‘s Indigenous Artist of the Year award (2020, 2021), and has received three nominations from the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA): Group of the Year, Roots Album of the Year, and their song “Heavy Heart” up for Producer of the Year.

The band has performed at multiple venues and festivals across Canada and the United States, sharing the stage with artists like Blue Rodeo, Kathleen Edwards, Eagle and Hawk, Derek Miller, Susan Aglukark, Celeigh Cardinal, Logan Staats, and many more.

Scott Roos from Exclaim! says The North Sound’s latest album, As the Stars Explode, “offers a fresh take, both musically and lyrically” and “takes a different route compared to the usual country music norms that at times stifle the genre, and it really works

Forrest and Nevada call Saskatoon home with their two children and horses. The North Sound seeks to create opportunities that have a positive impact on all communities.
